Andrea Cau lashes out at the orgy of amateur artists doing dinosaurs...
I'd say he's largely right. My thoughts here...

I'm hoping his tone of language is more due to Google tranlator (and I assume it is), but even your using the word "lashing out" to me is dangerous. It is a confrontational, and that is the last thing we need within palaeo or palaeo-art right at this time...

We all saw the backlash Gregory Paul recieved (in no small portion from members of this site) due to his attacks on amateurs. It has caused some damage I'd venture within the palaeo-art community. More in fighting is not something we need more of...

Palaeontology and the sciences in general are under enormous attack in recent years, and the publics interest in them has been waning.

For scientists to suddenly start developing an elitism about how "outsiders" can enjoy or expresses themself in the a scientific domain is ludicrus, selfish, and self destructive.

We are on the scientists side. Sure we may not have the full know how, but that is why they are the professional and we are the enthusiast. That doesn't mean we are less important than them! Scott Sampson so wisely stated palaeontology above all the other sciences owes so much to the volunteers and enthusiasts who devote thousands of dollars and man hours to help keep new fossils and research from coming to light.
