Prehistoric Times Update

As you may or may not know, many AE members have recently been having their artwork published in the Prehistoric Times Magazine. Much like submitting art on this site its great free advertising, but unlike this site, PT has the added bonus of seeing your work in print!

Sadly I haven't been able to track down a copy of the latest issue, which has a piece of my own (and a few other AEers) printed within. Hopefully someone will be able to get up a quick post alerting us as to who is in there (apart from me).

So besides this plug for PT's of Xmas past, the upcoming issue is calling for art of two prehistoric critters we've already done galleries for. Meaning if you submitted to our galleries, you have 2 instantly ready submissions for publication in Prehistoric Times!

The Prehistoric Times is looking for Therizinosaurs and Pterosaurs. The due date for submissions is June. 10th. Details for how to go about this can be found here.

Guest Scientist Spotlight: Andrea Baucon and his book "Geology in Art"

With ART Evolved's growth comes increased notice from scientists and artists from around the world. This sort of interaction is wonderful and welcome, and we'd like to share it with you! First came our Guest Artist Spotlight, and now I am pleased to begin our Guest Scientist Spotlight series.

Welcome to the first installment of Guest Scientist Spotlight, where ART Evolved highlights a scientist involved with paleo-art. Our first guest scientist is Andrea Baucon, a paleontologist from the UNESCO Geopark Naturtejo Meseta Meridional in Portugal. Andrea's research interests are focused on the study of trace fossils, but he is also studying the relationship between art and geology.

As a contribution to the subject of GeoArt, Andrea has published the book “Geology in Art: an unorthodox path from visual arts to music.” In the book, he develops a theory of Geologic Art. The book crosses centuries and genres, from Botticelli to paleoart. You can visit http://www.geologyinart.com/, the official website of Andrea's project about geology in art. From here, you can see a full-preview of the book (on Blurb) and order a copy, or you can read his webzine about Geologic Art and see many beautiful examples of GeoArt.

The book looks great and absolutely fits ART Evolved's mandate! In fact, our own Flying Trilobite Glendon is highlighted in "Geology in Art" with an interview and a two-page spread, including some of his art! I personally love the term 'GeoArt' - an all encompassing word that includes Paleo-Art.

Check out more about Andrea Baucon at his website http://www.tracemaker.com/ and see his book at http://www.geologyinart.com/.

If you are a scientist (or artist) interested in being highlighted on ART Evolved, email us at artevolved@gmail.com.

The Flying Trilobite 2010 Calendar is here

This is a whole new collection of bio-, atheistic and paleo-artwork I've put together as a calendar for 2010. I'm really proud of this one, and it has a few image variants not previously available. I've included a peek at a few images below, and you can click through the entire calendar at my RedBubble reproduction gallery.

I loved the print quality of the 2009 calendar by RedBubble. They accept payment in many currencies, Canadian, U.S., Australian, U.K., and Euros. If you missed it, you can also purchase last year's calendar, with the dates revised for 2010!

It's a great a relatively inexpensive way to own a lot of Flying Trilobite artwork. Impress and weird out your friends, co-workers and labmates.

Both calendar collections can easily be found here.

And I've added a new tee! This t-shirt was suggested by one of my blog readers, Alison from the land of Aus. It features my popular Haldane's Precambrian Puzzle. Here's a close-up of the t-shirt graphic: It's available in 4 styles of sweatshop-free shirt, and in multiple colours.

And there is still time to order the popular Tra-la-la-la-lobite cards with delivery before Christmas day!
(Hmm. Next year perhaps ornaments?)

Happy Holidays and Merry Krismas!
