Stegosaur Inspiration

A gliding Stegosaurus. From the Ogden Standard-Examiner, 1920.  From Brian Switek's Dinosaur Tracking.

With the Stegosaur Gallery coming up soon, we've decided to do a series of posts aimed to help inspire our readers/artists in their stegosaur art!

The above image comes from Brian Switek's Dinosaur Tracking post on The Flying Gliding Stegosaur.  It originally came from the Ogden Standard-Examiner's comic section published in 1920!

While the above critter defies aerodynamics, as well as common sense, it does bring up the question: What the deuce ARE these amazing plates for?

Display and communication?  Thermoregulation?  Defense?  Hat rack?  All of the above?  I look forward to the debate in the comments section below!
