Due to the amazing volume of submissions we've been receiving for the Feathered Dinosaur gallery we're extending the deadline to February 4th (we need a little more time to properly upload and link all the submissions). So you have a little bit of extra time to create a piece for this palaeo-art extravaganza!
Remember we accept any and all artwork submitted that is themed around any of our gallery topics. Just send your submission(s), along with any accompanying text you'd like with them, and the link to your website/blog/online picture gallery to our email artevolved@gmail.com, and we'll post them!

Feathered Dinosaur Reminder!
Fans of all things prehistoric and feathered be sure to remember here at the end of the month we'll be hosting the Feathered Dinosaur gallery!
Palaeo-bloggers please help us spread the word about this gallery launch event with perhaps a minor post on your blog. Artists you've got 2+weeks, can't wait to see what gets produced.
Any and all feathered Dinosaurs are welcome. So be sure to have yours in on Febuary 1st (we do accept and post late submissions... though late entries are at the whim of Peter's and my own schedules. For the record, during the school year, this will result in very probable delayed inclusion])

The Dan Varner Tribute Gallery
After several people making the same good suggestion of us abandoning a specific creature topic for a our Dan Varner tribute gallery, we are giving in to common sense.
Thank you to everyone who voted, however this poll's results will not be taken into consideration for the May gallery. Though don't despair as in the end you will be able to create whichever creature for the gallery you want.
We are proud to announce the official format of the Dan Varner gallery will be any piece of art you see fitting as paying tribute to the departed great Dan Varner. It is suggested that your piece be themed toward Mesezioc sealife, as that was Mr. Varner's biggest impact within palaeoart the past two decades (but you can stray from this if you choose to). You can find examples of his artwork throughout Mike Everhart's excellent website Oceans of Kansas.

Mark Witton has some advice for you
Mark Witton in noting that no one (qualified) has ever put together a straight forward guide into launching them self as a palaeoartist, has gone and created one himself. I found it very useful and reassuring, speaking as someone on the cusp of breaking in into the "industry" (knock on wood), and so I heartily endorse you to check it out too. (It is also reassuring to see that the little advice I have tried to give in my own posts is nearly the same as Mr. Witton's... That'd have been embarrassing if it weren't ;P )

Dan Varner Tribute Gallery
With the passing of palaeoart great Dan Varner, and us needing a new Gallery topic for 2012's second gallery in May, we (Craig and Peter) thought a tribute to a departed great would be a fitting theme.
As of such we're holding a poll themed around the topics Mr. Varner famously brought back from deep time for a Dan Varner tribute gallery.
Please vote.
Also don't forget the Feathered Dinosaur gallery at the end of this month.

Evolved Encounters: Matt and Craig
We have a long over due ART Evolved encounter, and our first truly international meeting of the artists!
In August of 2011 ART Evolved founder Craig Dylke met up with artist extraordinaire Matt Van Rooijen for pizza in Hobart Australia. This run in takes the record for farthest distance travelled by one party of the encounter (though Craig in a sense was cheating as his wife is from Hobart, Matt's current hometown). Good times were had, and hopefully it will happen again in the future (next time Craig visits the inlaws)
We challenge all you palaeo-artists (AE members and followers alike) if you should encounter another palaeo-artist be sure to record evidence and send it our way (artevolved@gmail.com).

We lose Dan Varner
Palaeo-art great Dan Varner has passed away this new year.
He was a very proficient and influential palaeo-artist, known especially for his reconstructions of prehistoric marine environments.
Dan will be missed, and we here at ART Evolved extend our well wishes and sympathies to his family and friends.
