About Us

Welcome to ART Evolved!

Our Site
`
What is ART Evolved about? In a nutshell we are a community site dedicated to palaeo-art, whether it be professional or amateur.

To this end we host many galleries and articles on the subject, and focus on and highlight the many great artists who create such art.

Of course this begs the question what is this palaeo-art we care so much about?

Palaeo-Art

Palaeo-art is a work of art that somehow (whether accurately or not) connects us with the prehistoric past. These pieces typically involve organisms from these long ago times, plants and animals (most often extinct), and as of such this art is influenced intentionally or unintentionally by fossils and the science of palaeontology.

Who Runs ART Evolved

Due to the vast scope of this possible subject matters (billions of years worth!) ART Evolved has multiple blogging members to help do some justice to this genre of art. You can get to know all of us through our individual profiles by clicking here (the profiles are in no particular order).

Online Public Galleries
`
ART Evolved's most unique feature, and which we are the most proud of, are the Time Capsule Galleries of Life. Every two months we select a gallery theme in which everyone and anyone can submit pieces of art! Send your artwork(s) to artevolved@gmail.com.

The materials, medium, and composition are completely up to the artist. The piece does not have to be scientifically accurate or even based on reality, and most important the art does not have to meet or match any quality standard. In other words, so long as it vaguely connects to the theme, we will post it no matter what. We will fully credit you for your piece, and link to your site or blog.

There are several benefits to participating in the galleries. The first and foremost it should hopefully prove quite fun! There is nothing quite like creating, and here is a good excuse (with a slight deadline) to make sure you engage this part of your brain regularly. For aspiring artists (especially palaeo-artists) ART Evolved serves as a good promotion and networking hub.
`
Already in our sites' history several participates have gotten some much deserved recognition and publicity. We have also been covered in online and print articles and media, and have been a featured site on Google.

So please consider participating in these galleries!
`
You can check out the previous Time Capsule galleries here. The individual galleries can also be selected from the right sidebar.
Guest Artist Profiles
`
If you have an existing portfolio of Palaeo-art, and would like to have yourself highlighted on ART Evolved, simply send us your pieces and whatever written bio you wish to accompany them. All we ask is that you edit and correct your own written bio (as we do not like to alter people's work, written or art), and that you tell us where you would like the artwork placed amongst this writing (otherwise it will simply be placed at the end of the post).
Send these to artevolved@gmail.com
`
Guest Articles
`
If you wish to share your thoughts or ideas on a particular aspect of palaeo-art feel free to send it our way, to be featured as a guest post.
`
You are responsible for correcting and editing your text, and alerting us to where any accompanying pictures need to be placed in the article. If you are including art pieces created by someone other then yourself, make sure they are fully credited to their creator in the article (see our stance on Artist's Rights further down).

These may be sent to artevolved@gmail.com
`

Submitting to ART Evolved

If any of the above means of participation interest you again the email to send your submissions to is artevolved@gmail.com.

With pictures we can take art attached directly to the email as a file or retrieve it off a website you direct us too. We would prefer file attachments though if possible.
`
This way the artist can ensure the piece is the exact resolution and size they wish it to be when clicked for enlargement by ART Evolved's readers. When we have to download off a site or blog picture resolutions can be downgraded, and thus the finer details can be lost. Further if we are sent file copies of pieces it is much easier for us to keep track of submissions and ensure they are posted (and or immediately available for reloading if there is a glitch).

Join the Discussion
`
If there is one thing that art needs to thrive is feedback from its audience. So please don't be shy, especially with the galleries, feel free to leave comments for our artists about their work. What worked or what didn't, what you like or didn't like (though with negative feedback be sure to do so in a respectful manner). With article topics let the authors know what you found helpful or useful and what you didn't. Otherwise they can not hone article topics to subjects you the readers might enjoy.
`
Concerns
`
If you have any questions or concerns about the content on ART Evolved feel free to leave a comment on the specific post or send the administrators an email at artevolved@gmail.com, and we will attempt to address these to the best of our ability.
`
Artist Rights
`
We here at ART Evolved have a very strong stance on artist rights and their ownership of their work. Afterall one of the benefits of being an artist is being acknowledged and praised for your work. Due to digital technology, it is very easy for people to avoid crediting a person for their work, but yet enjoy their work none the less. We are not advocating for this crediting out of monetary concerns. but simply so that the artist's hard work is known by all.
`
As of such if you wish to use a copy of one of our artist's pieces we insist that you fully credit them on your site or blog. Consider if it were your work being presented elsewhere. Would you not want others to know it was your work?
`
We insist on crediting any and all artwork that appears on our site. For those pieces we can not track down a creator for, we openly acknowledge this lack of credit, and ask that if you know who the artist behind a piece was to please let us know.
`

ART Evolved's Future
`
Much like the animals and plants we recreate, ART Evolved is a continually evolving entity. As of such there are many things we are hoping to expand and adapt this site into doing.
`
As many tears of palaeo-art are very concerned with presenting accurate science, we are hoping to grow and strengthen our ties with the scientific community. If you are a working researcher who has wished to have inputs on what palaeo-artists are recreating, our site is a perfect venue for such input (be they in the comment section or a full on guest post!). Many of our members and participates are up and coming palaeo-artists who would readily embrace any feedback a scientist could give them to make their recreations more relevant.
`
We also are looking for ways to increase the community services of ART Evolved and give all our members and participates more ways of interacting. If you have any suggestions or ideas, please send them our way.
